4 Inch Slip/slabware Bishop or Abbott with Mitre
Hello
I've seen this guy before a few years ago on an online page but I'm not finding it again. The face and mitre look very familiar to this memory as do the impressed circles decoration around the bottom.
If memory serves the page noted people assumed it was part of a chess set but it was not which is not completely surprising as some 4 inches high.
I have tried Tremar, Tramaen and several other standard Devon and Cornwall potters as I'm pretty sure it's local to me.
No impressed marks that I could see.
Thicker walls than most slipware and some hand finishing so could have been all hand done with a slab rounded over rather than a mold.
Thanks

Hmm I don't see that myself but checked I checked but did not find it. It is not really like their clay as such. Cheers though as I had not checked them.

Chess piece is my first thought too. Possibly made for a museum gift shop

Indeed but I really have this memory of reading of the piece that it was a common misconception. Besides the chessboard would have to be about 4' across the side....would look pretty amazing though. I'll nudge the brain a bit and see if it comes back :0)

It's similar to the Lewis Chessmen found on the Orkneys. Maybe this piece is a copy from a Scandinavian version
