Is this a Whitefriars vase - Milan Metelak for Harrachov
Hi all,
First proper post!.
I picked this up at a car boot sale a week or two back and it's got me stumped. I assumed it was a piece of Whitefriars because, although the photos don't really show it, the blue is a dead ringer for other Kingfisher blue vases I've owned. I've had a scan through some online Whitefriars catalogues to no avail, so if anyone can shed any light on it's maker i'd be really pleased.
Thanks for your time. Matt

Lovely vase. Helps to have a photo of the base even if there’s no mark

That clear base looks a bit more like Murano type glass than Whitefriars,

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the 'heads up'. I've had a bit of a search through some images as suggested, the items produced by Milan Metelak for the Harrachov Glassworks seem to have lot in common with my piece. I think a bit more digging is in order.
Cheers Matt

Hi,
Thanks for your confirmation. I recently discovered this post, from 8 years ago, on another glass website which backed up my initial hopes after Tim's original suggestion to check out Czech glass.

To my mind it's a cracking(!) bit of mid-century glass, great colour, nice shape and weight. It sits well in my hotchpotch collection of Scandinavian, British and otherwise unknown glass, and it's been a while since I last picked up anything as nice as this at a car boot sale.
Cheers Matt
