I dont know the date but the carving looks quite old, imo. Those circles in circles can date back a few hundred years.

Yes, it does feel old. Any idea country of origin? Is it English or maybe Indian/Asian?

Also, I think the 4 smaller holes have been drilled at a later date and maybe nothing to do with original function. The large centre hole looks contemporary with the carving.

Genius! Think you’re right. A base for a nutmeg grater. Obviously, the top (grater) element missing. Late 18th/early 19th C. Thanks Naomi
