Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
I've just taken a bit of a chance and bought this dog from Etsy for £20.
It was sold as being by Richard Parkinson and the mark seems to support that. However, I can't find any reference to this model online and the decoration seems unusual for the Parkinsons.
If love to know whether anyone has seen this before? Is it legit? Did I nab a bargain?
Thank you!

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
Neither the model nor the mark are in the book, which was noteable
for it's omissions.

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
But DD it does have that early look like the lion and unicorn and the right material and decoration. I don't see anything wrong with it.
Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
Material, and colour look right, but its a bit twee, not abststact enough for me,
the hole in the base is badly finished, and I dont recall textured "fur" on any
animal figures. My jury is out on this one sorry...

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
The book Denby refers to is the standard book on Parkinson.
SUSAN PARKINSON AND THE RICHARD PARKINSON POTTERY by CAROL CASHMORE & TIM SMITH VINCENT. Published by the authors in 2004.
It is now quite expensive!

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
Ah, thanks. It looks like an interesting read, but I'll struggle to justify spending £70.

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
The two early (I assume) pieces are the Lion and Unicorn which I think do look like this. Very 50s, very twee.

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
I am looking at the book now. Page 77, there is a photo of model No 141 THE POODLE. It looks almost identical to this one. To quote from the book
'3 inches high. This model is unusual because
surface decoration is used to represent the fur rather than applied colour'
Which is exactly the body decoration in this one. It seems as though it is genuine.

Re: Richard & Susan Parkinson Dog
Oh, that is good news. Thank you Philpot!
I'm very pleased to have this little guy as part of my fledgeling collection. I do agree that it looks a bit twee in comparison to most of the other models. I suppose that might explain why there seems to be fewer of these about?

Yes I missed the pic in the book, on a quick flick through!
Can't say I've ever seen this model before, but then I've had
some in the past that aren't even mentioned in the book.
Nice pick-up!
