Re: Italian ceramic vessel
I saw a similar one recently. Possibly a Pilgrim Flask, although it has a base, where as pilgrim flasks are designed to be hung over the shoulder by a loop of string. Possibly a moon flask or amphora.
The written mark could date it to the early 20thC, but based on a traditional/earlier style.

Re: Italian ceramic vessel
thank you for the feedback
fascinating how much work went into each piece
"flask" was the exact term I was looking for and greatly improved my searches
it seems this is a more modern interpretation of symbols from maybe the 14th or 15th century
