Earthenware cup for ID.

A beautiful earthenware cup, not done a great deal of justice by my photos.
The mark is near invisible until held in the light. Very difficult to make out the letters, possibly a S in there. I'm hoping it's obvious to someone.

That'll be a stoneware cup and might be Japanese.
