Lydia Barge, Rhu, Scotland
My first post on this site.
I have had this vase for many years now and would love to know a little bit more about it.
I don't have many pottery reference books and could not find any information on the net.
hopefully someone will look in with some input.
The vase is 142 mm high, 55mm at the base and 125mm at the top.
Thanks in anticipation,

Re: Lydia Barge, Rhu, Scotland
I have found a few Lydia Barge auction results and completed sales but nothing more. Potting in the 50s-60s

Re: Lydia Barge, Rhu, Scotland
No, I was going through some old photo albums so I thought I’d add it to the thread

A jug here signed both by Lydia Barge and Gerard Quail, a Glasgow-based potter and writer on ceramics:

And a mention of her here, as making vases for the altar at the Robin Chapel in Edinburgh:

Re: Lydia Barge, Rhu, Scotland
...and the mention of Rhu leads to this article about her father, which fills in a bit of background though Lydia is only mentioned in passing.

Lydia Barge
Lydia Barge is my great aunt, (my mother's aunt), she turns 99 years old this year. She lives with our family on the west coast of Scotland.
If you ever decide to sell this peice please let me know as I would really love to buy it. I dont have any of her pottery and have been searching the Internet to see if I can find any.

Great to hear from family members. I didn’t buy the pin dish but will keep an eye out for more pieces

Re: Lydia Barge, Rhu, Scotland
From what I've gleaned in the articles, she grew up in Rhu, Argyll & Bute, Scotland and looked after her father there until he died; this seems to be where she was potting in the 50s-60s. She doesn't seem to have married. She may also have lived in Glasgow or Edinburgh as she made some pots there too.

Hi Lara
I work in a vintage & secondhand shop in East Lothian. We currently have a lovely jug made by your aunt and we wanted to give you first refusal. You would have to collect though, I don’t know if you ever find yourself over in this neck of the woods?
