I inherited this Langley Mill vase and I'd like to know a bit more about it. It has several marks on the base, including a painted number 4. Unfortunately it has a quite a large repaired crack, but is otherwise in good condition. Are they a common item nowadays?Langley Mill - Age of vase? Img_6911

Langley Ware was a brand name of the Derbyshire pottery Lovatt & Lovatt started 1895. This piece is very high victorian and probably

produced circa 1900. Link is to a history of the pottery.

The mark is the "Langle ware" mark used 1883-90.
impressed 23 is the shape/size code.
Impressed G is the decorator's mark.
Incised 23 is the glaze code (Salmon).
Other incised numbers are design/decoration codes.
The gold 4 is the gilder's mark.

These jardinieres were produced in large quantities at this time, and are fairly
common survivours, despite their age.
