Please help ID this vase with carved fish? Empty Please help ID this vase with carved fish?

Hi everyone! Please help me ID this 7" (18 cm) vase. It has a mark that looks like a Japanese style black ink stamp. It is hand thrown and carved. not molded. Look like stylized fish around the top with a textured finish. Top is oval, foot is round. Thanks for any info, I really appreciate it!

It looks like Japanese characters, upside down.
