After checking further I can see the style and colours are similar to Abuja pottery but can't find the exact mark so not sure if this is a specific potters mark for Abuja pottery.

I believe it’s ‘Abuja’ written in the native language. Some pots used that or the Abuja stamp (which may have come later), paired with the potters’ monogram stamp

It is, as Naomi states, the later mark for the Abuja Pottery. Despite you going for 3 options about which way up it should be, you missed the correct one, which is: -
When a piece of this vintage is marked by an individual potter it will have a second mark, which will use our alphabet. For example, BAWA, for Bawau Ushafa, or LK for Ladi Kwali etc.
