Jack Kenny
hi all
Picked up this jug the other day. Marks are very difficult to photograph and even make out with the naked eye due to being under the glaze, you have to get it just at the right angle but I think the first seal is Winchcombe? The jug certainly has the right look... The second seal is a mystery though, as it's just an "S" which i haven't been able to find online anywhere. The S is central to the mark so doesn't look like there is room for a "T" next to it for Sydney Tustin.
Any ideas?
thanks!

Re: Jack Kenny
Not sure if the first mark is the Winchcombe mark. Can we see an image of the jug please, as that would help?

Re: Jack Kenny
The glazes don't really look "Winchcombe".
Looking at the mark that you think is Winchcombe, might it be a J and K joined?

Hi studio-pots
I can't really see that, but it could be a J and an R back to back i suppose. If you look at the first image (but in the second post where i got it the right way up!) and move your eye line up/down and left/right to the screen, so the contrast changes, i think you might make out the WP?... while looking a bit mad! I've outlined what i think i can see below - see if you agree comparing the two...

Jack Kenny or Thomas Plowman
Interesting, Denbydump!! Certainly looks very similar with the S too... the TP mark would be upside down in my instance, but i guess that's possible!

Re: Jack Kenny
It could be Jack's but we never saw the jug, which would have helped a great deal.
For all the time that I knew him, he only used an S mark and no other. However, I did pick up something since the original post with both marks + a sticky label. I will see if I can dig the piece out.

Re: Jack Kenny
I thought that I had sold the pot that I mentioned in September, as it should have been it one of my cheap boxes but wasn't. However, I came across it today and here it is.
A stoneware carafe, I assume, with a loose stopper.

Re: Jack Kenny
Here are the impressed marks.

I met Jack around 2000 and, although he worked alone, all the pots from that period had an impressed S with dots either side.
Therefore the use of 2 marks dates from the 20th century AND
back then it seems to have used his full name.
