Bitossi Marks

Post by Walter Del Pellegrino on March 8th 2009, 2:23 am

I read, with great interest, the topic entitled Bitossi (italy). The examples were wonderful and the topic generated a number of intriguing questions. I am not a dedicated Bitossi collector but all pottery marked Italy fascinates me and over the years I have owned several examples of Bitossi-like ceramics. I have always been rather perturbed by the number of pieces that have wrongfully, but probably honestly, attributed to Bitossi but I have never written about the subject. This forum gave me the impetus to finally attempt to offer some explanation of the subject. A good portion of the article is speculation on my part and still requires more detailed research. I hope, however, that it will offer some foundation for an understanding of the Bitossi mark.
Because of its length and the subject matter itself I decided it would be better to post the article in my own Italian Pottery Marks forum. Please feel free to drop by and offer your comments, suggestions and rebuttals. You will find the subject in the Identification Help Section. Unfortunately the forum itself is rather bare at the moment. After years of having the forum hosted by Xsorbit the company pulled the plug without notice, shut the lights, closed their doors and went home.

Bitossi or ?

Post by twenty21 on September 17th 2009, 8:29 am

This is a rather good quality made in Italy vase with carved decoration. Is Bitossi a clear possibility?

Post by bistoboy on September 23rd 2009, 10:43 pm

hi all,
i've seen this horse head for sale at auction but it hasn't been given an attribution in the catalogue. i'm wondering if it's Bitossi, and if so, what kind of money should i be prepared to pay?
i really love it, but haven't been to see it in the flesh yet, so don't know what the bottom is like

Bitossi "E-Vaso" double vase designed by Paolo Palma and Carlo Vannicola in 1996 these came in various colours an earlier version was made in 1990 with slighly less curves, made in a deliberate rough style , no markings on this one , measures 9.5" x 9.5".

Bitossi

Post by katie_rain86 on August 14th 2010, 6:17 am

Hey all, I'm new to the forum, and I want to let everyone know how much I love it!! All the posts, everyone is SO helpful!! I was recently given a Rosenthal Netter vase, and I'd like to know more about it... Like when it was made, how much it might be worth, all that jazz. And any other information would be great. I've done many searches, but I can't find much on it. I don't think I'm doing the right kind of searching. On the sticker on the bottom it's marked 242/4. It's about 9 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide. It weighs 2.5 pounds. Thanks so much for your time, I'm looking forward to learning more about my new treasure!!
~Katie~
I thought I'd be able to put the pic on here, but I didn't do it right, here's the link. Thanks again!!

Rosenthal Netter were US importers of Italian pottery, mainly from Bitossi. We had another one on here recently if you do a bit of searching. I don't know exact dates but 1950's - 1970's sounds about right.

The numbers are probably a stock code, they don't follow the usual European shape / size format.

We don't see many in the UK but I don't think value will be huge, maybe $20-$30.

Bitossi dish or wishful thinking?

Post by vanmann on March 27th 2011, 2:21 pm

I bought this small dish (14 cms square) thinking that it could be by Bitossi. Is this me being hopeful? Any suggestions as to origin and date of manufacture much appreciated. John
