Denby Jug w/o Signature? Empty Denby Jug w/o Signature?

Post by nickponty on August 17th 2020, 10:14 am

Hi all,

A bit of a puzzle we're trying to solve - we've picked up a lovely Denby jug from the 1960's we think. All our research so far (albeit just via Google) suggested it should be signed 'Glyn Colledge' but as you can see from the second picture, it's not been signed - is this an indication that it's not what we think, or it came later, or it was simply missed off in production? Any ideas?

Many thanks, as always!

Nick

Yes it is a Glynbourne ware GB 871 jug, designed in 1960.
This later backstamp was used after 1975, so a later one.

An incised signature is attributed to Glyn himself,
A black ink stamped facsimile signature was mainly added to avoid purchase tax.
Maybe not needed by 1975, or later.
