I'm putting this in here for confirmation. I think It's one of those odd German but Austrian badged red clay Carstens 664-18. I know I have found the form in the Carstens thread.

Carstens Tonnieshof - Page 3 Empty A really bubbly fat lava lamp base

Is this a converted vase? Two things make me think not.
1. The plate covering the bottom fits perfectly and looks as if it was made for this piece. I've dismantled it to replace the hardware with North American hardware.
2. The interior is completely unglazed.

"W.Germa" and a partial serial number which is illegible. Looks as if the bottom was beat out with a hammer. Laughter

This one is from the Nurnberger bund as well, but who manufactured it? Because of the glaze the form number is hard to reas. I think it can be either 1844-30 or 1644-30
