Unusual Double Flask With Exotic Bird Decoration??
I recently decided to purchase this item due to the unusual nature
of the item i thought it looks typically Victorian but would love to
find out any more information about it :) The piece is 8" tall and
seems to be transfer printed with added color in places i think that
each flask is made in two pieces before they have been put together.
Thank you very much and stay safe everybody

It is typical Victorian but double flasks like that are usually made of glass. I assume that there are no marks on the base?

Hi there thank you for replying :)
I have just looked up the glass versions many
seem to be around the 1840's in date could this be
a similar date? Would you know what it it made from?
Thanks
Sorry no markings :(

If you hold a torch to the side of the neck and the light partially lights the inside then it's translucent and therefore porcelain/china. If no light passes through it'll be earthenware.

Re: Unusual Double Flask With Exotic Bird Decoration??
Thank you for that tip certainly an earthenware :) Spotted another similar online very little information
other than it's named as a Gimmel flask does anyone know if they were ever actually used for holding
thing's i could imagine it maybe useful for say vinegar and oil with cork stopper? Or possibly just for decoration.
My other question which is it has an old repair on one spout its been stuck back with old animal glue would it be worth paying for a repair ??? I know its an awkward question but thought i'd put it out there i will keep it i think as its quite a nice piece maybe look to repair it in future thanks for the great help :)

It's possible that they were originally a novelty made to demonstrate a glassmaker's ability, or an 'end-of-day' piece to use up the molten glass, so not unlike the Nailsea glass walking canes in that respect. They would likely have been used in the home, the size dictating the use. Smaller ones could be used for perfumes or toilet water, larger ones for spirits.
Whether or not it's worth restoring is entirely up to you. If you plan on keeping, only you know whether you can live with it as it is. If not then the best thing to do would be to get an estimate or two from professional restorers, then decide whether it's worth it to you paying for it to be done.

I had a similar glass double flask a couple of years back which was identified (on the glass message board) as being - as mentioned above - for vinegar and oil. The antique glass ones often have silver or silver plated collars and hinged lids.
For me, the style and colour of decoration on yours suggest 1860s - 1870s.
