Andre Loret, Sidmouth Pottery, Devon Empty Andre Loret, Sidmouth Pottery, Devon

Post by Oldmagpie Tue Jun 25, 2013 3:35 pm

Not sure if this is a wall plaque, but that's what I'm going to call it Shrugs Has Andre Loret Pottery label, but I cant seem to find much information on this style of work. There seems to be plenty of reference to their pirate mugs however. Cant seem to find other examples of work like this. Does anyone have any more info? dates etc all I have found so far is that the company has been dissolved. Doh!

Thanks

Andre Loret, Sidmouth Pottery, Devon Empty Studio Bull and Cow figures - Probably Andre Loret, Devon

Post by Celtic_Fan Mon Sep 02, 2013 7:19 pm

Does anyone recognise the maker of these?

One of these Bulls was sold on ebay a few months ago - the seller said he'd been told it was by John Hughes (World of Groggs).
The sig does look like it 'could be', but I've contacted them and they say it is not by Groggs or John.

I discovered these did seller last year with a larger horse figure as well (sadly I don't have that).
The cow seems to be entirely slip cast. The bulls body is slip cast, but the tail, horns (and 3 coils holding on the horns), seem to be added afterwards by hand.
The cow is 10inch long by 6inch high, Bull is 14inch long by 9inch tall (to top of tail).

They look a little bit like Carn, but I'm pretty sure they are not.
The Bull has a signature, the cow is unmarked but seems to be clearly the same maker.

Probably Cornish, but who? any help appreciated on these fantastic beasts.

Andre Loret, Sidmouth Pottery, Devon Empty Andre Loret style pirate mug with entwined monogram impressed

Post by RVsaid Sun Jan 05, 2014 4:00 pm

Hi

Does anyone know this mark as the mug is very akin to Andre Loret's work but all the examples I could find have impressed words on the base.

Andre Loret, Sidmouth Pottery, Devon Empty Studio Pottery head - Andre Loret

Post by Mordeep Fri Jul 31, 2015 9:29 am

Hi all

I was lucky enough to buy part of a collection yesterday. This head was amongst the items I picked up. It is signed but I can't read it. So any tips of insights would be very welcome.

Sorry for the picture angles. Only just got windows 10 and they are the right way up there, just not here.

Thanks

I think it's safe to say it's by Andre Loret even though it doesn't have his usual mark -

Seems he was based in Sidmouth, Devon, so the Sidmouth Pottery, made in a similar style, could be by his pottery too

Andre Loret, Sidmouth Pottery, Devon Empty Raised seahorse moulded dish - Sidmouth Pottery

Post by benwilliams Fri Jan 31, 2020 12:49 pm

60s 70s looking dish, slip moulded I think, blackish and green glaze.
Lines and seahorse are raised up.
No mark. Don’t know why I’m thinking Cornwall. Anyone recognise it?
Thank you again everyone!

Hooray, well done! I’ve got a feeling I may have sold a woman’s head planter from the same pottery last year. It’s good to know what it is. Thank you.
