Not a British mark I recognise. I wonder if it’s a Kanji mark? If so, it would be from the Mashiko area

Clay is wrong for Japan I believe. Body is a finely ground chamotte, I don't see that used in Japanese wares.
It is influenced by Japanese productions of course, but the mark is not Kanji, I believe it is a monogram type.
