Hi We have acquired a number of items from a family member. One of the items is a set of 2 silver serving spoons  with a piece of paper, saying c1801 George 111. They are in a case with a satin & Velvet insert.  We know the TO markings stand for Thomas Ollivant but nothing else about them. We don't know whether to keep them or sell them on as we have no idea if they have any value Are these silver spoons worth keeping? Pic_310

Well I can confirm they are London silver dated 1800.
However we are unable to give valuations on the forum.
I would probably take them to a local auction house when
they have a valuation day.
Weigh them first to get a scrap price, I go on 60p/gram as
a ballpark figure, but check that on the net first.

925 silver scrap price is currently 31p per gram.

Personally, I would keep them, but if you do sell them at auction, not all bids meet the estimate set by the auction house, some go below, occasionally they go over the estimate. Don't for get the costs, the lotting fee and sellers fee, some auction houses are £3 lot fee and 15% - 20% selling fee.

Another option for valuing them, check ebay sold / completed listings for a rough price.
