confused about silver marks.
Hi We acquired this sugar caster from a family member but cannot figure out the date from the marks on it. It looks like it says B&F in a box although it could be B&E this is followed by a lion with a blank face, a blank shield and what appears to be a fancy D. On the base there are some numbers scratched which look like 1779 followed by 290 followed underneath that 5590 but we have not got a clue of the date or the maker. we thought it might be birmingham but the shield has thrown us out completely. Can anyone shed any light on this? I have inserted some photos but i'm afraid i am not very good at taking them. Thank you.

I agree with denbydump on 1917, the makers mark looks like, to me, to be B&F over Ltd, if it is, then the maker is Blackmore & Fletcher Ltd
