JUg signed Cane or Lane

JUg signed Cane or Lane
Beautifully thrown porcelain jug, a little let down by the base. Signed Lane or Cane. Possibly Peter, Dennis or David Lane? I’m wondering if it’s by Peter Lane but he’s concentrated on bowls, and not his usual signature. David Lane runs Abington Pottery but not his nor Dennis Lane’s usual style.
A trial piece maybe?

That signature just looks odd. All the letters-especially- the L and the E- look like they were written by a small child still learning to do their capitals.Or someone not used to incising a signature in clay.

Re: JUg signed Cane or Lane
I wonder if the decorator signed the jug that was thrown by someone more experienced?

Re: JUg signed Cane or Lane
Would the jug be bisque fired before decorating? Maybe cane is the name of the decoration if it was a trial piece?

Re: JUg signed Cane or Lane
A nicely constructed pot. Is the mark incised? hard to tell.
The maker of the pot itself, would more likely mark the wet clay,
And a decorator would more likely mark with glaze.

Yes, incised in the clay. Cannot stress how well thrown it is, except the base.

Re: JUg signed Cane or Lane
It’s possible. It’s a bit messy. And there’s a missing patch of glaze on the inside so maybe it was a second and used as a trial piece
