Is this by Alan Reynolds?

I bought this painting recently and hope it may be an unsigned Alan Reynolds.
Opinions please.

I certainly has a lot more merit that the normal stuff we see. Have you checked if it is a similar size and on the same medium as his other listings. Similar pallet. Artists did tend to use the same paints.

But what about size? often they did a load of painting on the same size boards. Is it canvas? board? What board? is that typical of his work? You can do a lot more than just saying it's yellow and looks abstract.

oil on board stylistically incredibly similar to the work of Alan Reynolds. The picture is unframed on hardboard and dating from 1950-70 I would say. Definitely a period picture.

Stylistically it depicts abstracted plant forms and possibly a landscape in the background? It seems to be a study as it is unfinished in areas and has been pinned up as you can see from the corners. It has obviously been framed in its life .

I know a little bit about this type of art and I can see similarities but I think it is more likely someone trying to do a painting in his style. In real terms the only way of telling would be to have it looked at by an expert. …… and the other question is do you have any provenance?

there is no provenance at all, I just bought it because the wife and I both like it and we rarely agree on art
