This is a very heavy stone pot about 8" high - looks to be hand thrown. Can anyone identify this one - I am wondering whether the marks on the base might even be from an asian artist as I think this piece looks similar to the work of Toshiko Takaezu?

I’m not seeing his mark. I’m afraid I don’t recognise it

'Very Heavy' is not really a very good sign of a quality piece.

Thank you for the replies, I am still on the Japanese theme here, for reference... I think I may have found this mark on a website -
chano-yu.com/famous-japanese-potters-and-marks/
'Rosanjin Kitaoji' there is a thumbsize picture there of what looks like the same mark - the glaze and style of pottery is the same as others I have seen.
The 'very heavy' term was just a description as this pot is actually surprisingly heavy for its size.

Maybe ask Robert Yellin. He is very knowledgeable on this era of Japanese pottery

To my mind and that of many Japanese collectors Rosanjin was arguably the finest studio potter ever and, although he made pots in many styles, I can say with certainty that this is not by him.

Nothing about the glaze or the stoneware body or the way it is thrown suggests to me that it is Japanese.

I think it's a hobby potter.
