mid-century German pottery vase - Scheurich & Greulich
Hi. Hope someone can help. I found this piece in the North East of England (near Newcastle) labelled as a piece of 1960's Scheurich. It is marked on the base FOREIGN 247 22. However according to Mark Hill's excellent book Fat Lava, the type and shape of numbers do not match normal Scheurich numbering. Firstly they should be moulded (these look more hand impressed) and secondly they should be separated by a hyphen (-). Also according to other research I've done the Scheurich 247 vase bears no resemblance to this one. In addition I believe that pieces marked FOREIGN are normally from the mid-1950's after which time they started to be marked GERMANY or GERMAN etc.
It measures 22 cm tall (hence the 22 as part of the numbering system which does point it towards a German piece), x 14 cm wide x 8 cm deep and weighs just over 700 gms.
Any help would be much appreciated

AFter much scouring of the web I think I may have found a possibility. Jopeko. Looking at some marks published they bear a close resemblance to these. Also Jopeko used a white / buff clay. However I cannot find any example of Jopeko 247. Has anyone anything for Jopeko 247? Thanks

Apologies all for the late reply but thanks very much for the info. So possibly pre 1955? I still haven't been able to find any examples on the web of the shape (247) so if anyone has any pointers that would be really good (I personally love the twisted shape of the body). Also are there any know designers I could research?
