Hello, Would there be any "experts/ aficionados" (to use a loose term!) on Inuit and native stone carvings out there? I am a collector myself with many carvings, but am stumped by this particular 5 1/4" high archaic looking soapstone piece with notching and a face carved in one corner (almost looks like an anchor of sorts!) see photos! I am open to opinions or indeed a positive consensus on this item! Thank you! David.

It looks like an Inuit motif. Probably best to get it checked out by a museum that specialises in ethnographic and Inuit art.
