Denby 'Antiques Reproduction' flask.
Flask modelled as Lord John Russell, the author of the 1932 Reform Act. This is from Denby's 'Antiques Reproductions' line from, I think, the late '70s, reproducing the original which I guess would have been made shortly after the Act passed parliament..
The back says 'Bournes Potteries, Belper and Denby, Derbyshire'. It's just missing its cork stopper.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
They did several repro runs of their original (salt glazed) reform flasks.
This one looks like 1950s.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Older than I thought, then. Would the originals have been marked on the back as the repro's are, do you think?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Yes, all the same, but the originals were salt glazed, so completely
different colours.
different colours.
Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
And of course the Reform Act was 1832, not 1932 as I accidently put in my original post.
The flask is actually my wife's; she only bought it (car-boot sale for a couple of pounds a few years ago) because John Russell was her late father's name and she intended to give it to her mum. Unfortunately, the old girl declared it 'bloody ugly' and not something she wanted cluttering up her flat. My wife was quite taken aback until I pointed out that in matters of aesthetic tastes, the opinion of a person who lived in a flat with 1970s Capo-di-Monte figurines on every surface was best ignored

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Thanks, dd. The paper was on the plate (and the Langley ones) when I bought them. Just proves that it's best not to believe everything you read

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Denby "Minaret" designed by David Yorath, 1970.
There are 12 shapes in the range:
5 cylinder vases
4 necked vases
2 chargers
1 giant ash-tray
Other odd shapes, probably trials, have turned up also.
There are "Blue" and "Brown" colourways but there can be
lots of variation in the colours, some almost washed out,
maybe a bit over-fired.
Marks are: Unmarked, Denby mark, Artists signature, or both.
ACP is for Audrey Cole Parker. RW is so far not ID'd.
#805 11 in brown vase, and #803 9 in blue vase.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Is that because they're small so you can get summit in 'em, but not much?
Thanks, dd.

Denby Jug w/o Signature - Glynbourne range.
Hi all,
A bit of a puzzle we're trying to solve - we've picked up a lovely Denby jug from the 1960's we think. All our research so far (albeit just via Google) suggested it should be signed 'Glyn Colledge' but as you can see from the second picture, it's not been signed - is this an indication that it's not what we think, or it came later, or it was simply missed off in production? Any ideas?
Many thanks, as always!
Nick

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
Yes it is a Glynbourne ware GB 871 jug, designed in 1960.
This later backstamp was used after 1975, so a later one.
An incised signature is attributed to Glyn himself,
A black ink stamped facsimile signature was mainly added to avoid purchase tax.
Maybe not needed by 1975, or later.

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
It's a Denby "ECHO" serving platter.
I have seen this mark before, but never Id'd it.
Probably a wholesaler W T Ltd?

Re: Denby Pottery (Derbyshire)
As far as I know, this is from a Denby range called "Echo" (there was a similar one in yellow called "Ode"). No idea why it has this mark, but Denby marks at this time were rubber-stamped in the same way.
Sorry, I see it's already identified.
