Found this little modernist black and white candlestick today. The white glazed areas have a semi-matt, satin finish - just like that used on Cheviot and Cloisonne ware. It is unsigned, though the unglazed foot rim is sooo Denby-like. Quite weighty too. Undocumented item?

No I have had them before. I have seen them for sale as Tigo ware, which they
could be, as some items were done in stoneware, but not on my Tigo pattern sheets.
May just be an oddball accessory/giftware item.

This is a Denby Majolica tobacco jar, c1920s.

Langley Mill also made jars with the same Crown mark, but has never
been positively id'd, but one assumes it must have been for some
government department or other.

Denby Coffee Pot

Post by denbydiva on August 8th 2018, 5:36 pm

Thought you might like to see this gorgeous and unusual Denby coffee pot. Part of the pattern is sort of tube lined. I believe it to be from the 1920s. Lovely colours , shape and what a handle.

I see these are called majolica a lot, but I don't see the white underglaze?

With the high spout, I think it's a chocolate pot. People seem to call them anything but a teapot, though.

Well no, it is not "Majolica" in the traditional sense, but that is what Denby decided
to call that particular range of art-pottery.

You can see my examples here:

Thank you janetpjohn. Even as I wrote "coffee" pot I thought that may be wrong as people didn't drink coffee here that much in that era. Chocolate, yes. It has a strainer in the spout too.

This is picture of base as best as I can get it. There is a similar jug, same design but without a lid in the Denby Museum.

The shape is earlier, and is technically a "Tankard Coffee Jug".

Yes, the decoration is lovely - green, blue and white with some tube lining, including in stripes across the handle. Thank you for that interesting information on the shape.

There are "Coffee pots" and "Cocoa jugs", all from the same period, but the shapes are slightly different.

Very unusual decoration, maybe a special order for someone.

A generic Denby Peace mug 1919. Probably made in large quantities.
They came with the addition of a printed place name, many for the towns,
villages and hamlets in the area, which are more sought after, as for some,
only small quantities would have been made.
