Help identifying twin handled vase - Bretby

Post by Nitram on July 6th 2018, 4:45 pm

Hello, †grateful for any insights please as to this twin handled vase, passed down through the family. †There are markings on the base as shown in the photos but difficult to make out. †It measures ~22cm high and ~12cm diameter. †Many thanks in advance for taking a look.

It might be a Bretby stamp

Many thanks for pointing towards Bretby, much appreciated, I will look into. What does having a number marked on the base mean please?

Itís usually a pattern number, and the letter at the end might be a size code.

All ID requests are posted (or moved) to the ID My Pottery group and then moved to the relevant group once itís been identified, so Iíll delete your duplicate post in the British Group and merge this one with the main Bretby thread in due course

Many thanks for explaining the number on the base. Apologies for mistakenly posting my original request twice in different places. With the forum insights it does look like from googling elsewhere the vase is a Bretby piece, although I have not found one exactly the same.

Sorry it was the washed out colour that threw me.
A lot of this pre-war period of Bretby was cold painted over the glaze.
It does flake off and discolour, particularly the matt black they used a lot,
which may have happened here.
