It doesn't have this mark in Yates-Owen. Maybe it was a special mark for the Millennium?

Post by RVsaid August 24th 2014, 12:21 pm

Hi

An interesting 4.5 inch high vase with wheel design and impressed House or square triangle mark. I'm not convinced about the quality of this piece and the mark is close to Habitat's. Seems to have been nade by rolling up the clay leaving a seem join. Top half glazed bottom half matte finished. Any thoughts welcome, about the piece not just random thoughts that is because I'm not giving out free pennies...

Another pot from my late mother-in-law's collection.

Maybe a Bernard Rooke but no markings?

Vase has identical front and back decoration and is 19 cm tall.

Gordon.

Possibly Bob Dawe, Louis Hudson, Graham Fern or Alan Wallwork. Base and internal and back photos needed to try to narrow it down.

This is a wonderful cylinder pot with incised decoration. I am really stumped by it. I had thought it was by Bob Dawe until I checked in my reference book. Can anyone help identify the potter please, kind regards

Here's a Red Barn vase that stands about 20cm tall. I guess it's an early piece.

Thanks to Naomi's lovely website I realise that the pot that has sat on kitchen worktop for years containing pens/pencils etc. is a Bob Dawes pot - similar to the one at the bottom of page 1 - 4.5" high, green glaze at top, 3 different circular patterns incised in clay below, rolled slab construction, correct mark. Is it ok to keep using it as a pen holder or should it be given more respect and prized as an object of great worth.

I’d carry on using it as a pen holder. There are keen collectors of his work but it’s not rare Most Excellent

Just came across this piece on the late Bob Dawe. Interesting to note he diversified into making dishes in the 90s. I don't recall ever seeing one.

Very interesting.

A quote from the blog

This is Bob Dawe replying to your interesting question about our style of pottery in the 60’s. It was probably because several of us went to Goldsmiths College, where building pottery was far more of an interest to us than throwing. Secondly, under the influence of two splendid tutors: David Garbett and Gordon Baldwin. There was a very strong emphasis on textual decoration that related to the pot and enhanced its form.
