heavy B&W vase hexagonal incised pattern - soapstone
This is an 8" tall vase which weighs 2.5 pounds, black with incised white lines, black bottom, white interior. It has a wavy hexagonal pattern that resembles an animal print, and there is a faint mark on the bottom where a label once was. I have no idea about it (though the original owner did like Native American art) so any advice is much appreciated, thank you!

Helps to have a photo of the base as well, to check construction , but I think this is carved and dyed soapstone, made in South Africa

Cheers :) Yes, I’m sure it’s soapstone. I saw a lot of it in the gift shops in Spain, and that pattern was one of them, along with a lot of fish. I think it’s made in a number of places; India, South Africa, Morocco...probably Mexico too, and sold in tourist hot spots and home decorating stores.
