It helps to photograph items with your back to the window, otherwise the camera compensates for daylight levels and the object is underexposed. Also we need a photo of the base to see the manufacturing process.

General rule of thumb with glass in charity shops. If it does not have an acid etched mark, do not buy it. So much has been produced in vast quantities all over the place, it will be very very difficult to identify.

I think you'd miss out on a lot of potentially collectable glass if you stuck too rigidly to this approach, after all there is a long list of sought after glass manufacturers who never acid etched a mark on their glass, but instead relied on labels. You are right to be wary though, particularly when it comes to this kind of brightly coloured glass which is often far east in origin.

But 'sought after' glassmakers whose work is easy for a novice to identify? It usually takes a good deal of experience in an area of collecting to be able to do that.
