Small Chinese/Japanese small dish with carved incised figures/characters
Very nice small Chinese/Japanese small dish with carved incised figures/characters and drop back landscape with hand applied coloured ink. The centre section of dish you can push out centre. The centre is hard push out and refit. Don't know the material, could be Ivory or resin. Date/period unknown, maybe early vintage 20th century.
Any info on its history, date or material would be most appreciated thanks.
Dimensions: 2 cm high x 3.75 inches diameter.

Looks like turned ivory. Not come across plates before.

Thanks NaomiM
I have it listed on feebay, no wonder it lit up with interest on there. I no nothing about the plate or seen anything like it before. Out of my league this sort of thing.
Thanks
Ern

I would guess it’s in two parts because the middle and outer rim would have been cut from the two ends of the tusk

If it is ivory, get rid of it quick!

Too late. Look up CITES Ivory. UK likely to ban all trade. Good thing too. It's more useful to the elephant
Re: Small Chinese/Japanese small dish with carved incised figures/characters
Strange! Ebay has not removed the listing yet. I bought these pieces in a charity shop for 20p. I bought them because of the quality, I know nothing about them, date, age and thought they are made from plastic or resin. I could have got a heated needle and do a test, but hey, it can't be Ivory I'm not that lucky.
So my question here is, should I remove them from EBay. Beginning to feel uncomfortable about this now.

If it’s older than the 1950s then it’s fine. You’d really need to have it dated by the decoration and inscription on a Japanese group. I can recommend this one on Facebook, although they may not be happy if they see it on eBay as they are a strictly non-commercial group -
