Plenty of marks looks a bit like Moorcroft?

Turkish design. Possibly from Turkey or Safi, Morocco. Fairly recent manufacture.

Oh didn't think it was recent as, it belonged to my friend's Mother and my friend was born 1951

Have to a agree with NaomiM.

Its north African made all along the coastline from Egypt to Morocco at the other end of the med. Its a mass produced low cost tourist item. If you google images of the souks you will quickly find pictures of entire shops floor to ceiling with similar Iznik inspired ceramics. The chances are really low that its is any older than the 1970's when package holidays and tourism took of. But I think it's newer than that, the painting is not great and the newer they are the less effort they made in decvoration.

The reason your eye compares it to art nouveau though is that many of the designs from that era take inspiration from ceramics / tiles from the same part of the world as your pot.

I've been caught out by that before, buying a vaguely oriental vase that belonged to a middle aged lady's grandmother. Turned out it was by Roger Michell after he left Carlton Ware in the 1990s. The grandmother had obviously bought it new when she was in her 80s Big Laughter
