Straw Silk Glass Vase
Kind help please with this silkstraw coated glass vase. It has a mark on the base, but cannot read the signature and it starts with what looks like a C or L. I don't think it's by Keir or Johnson, think it's much earlier period. Just hoping someone here maybe able to help me with identifying the vase and mark.
Thanks
Ernest

Re: Straw Silk Glass Vase
There's one the same shape on Karen Keir's webpage. May be best to ask her.

Hi NaomiM. Keir only puts paper string labels around/on her wares and does not sign the base with incised signature. Margaret Johnson is another glass maker who makes this design. I contacted her a couple years ago and it's not hers, she also use paper labels only, and not sign the base.NaomiM wrote:There's one the same shape on Karen Keir's webpage. May be best to ask her.
I do believe it's much earlier and possibly early/mid 20th century. I have traced this design and idea from around the late 1890s onwards. Will research further. The mark is hard to read and defiantly begins with a capital C.
Thanks again for the reply and feedback NaomiM, much appreciated.

Very interesting NaomiH. Will have a search on Scottish glass and see what I can find and see if it throws something on the makers marks. Thanks Ern.
