The mark on the other vase in the pair looks slightly more like a 'G' than a '9'.

what you said could well be the case though. That thought has certainly crossed my mind. forgive my lack of knowledge but is it usual practice to number ceramics? and if these are numbered rather than signed I imagine that would make it fairly difficult to Id them?

The mark is just the decorator's mark. Much of this enamelling was homework and paid by the piece, so they marked in order to get paid
