Old Pine Chest Iron Straps And Handles
I bought this from a junk/clearance shop about 20 or so years ago I had it dipped to strip it and since then It's been through hell with me, and recently a place to store my pots. Now I've just emptied it and was wondering just how old it is and with the round iron handles, what it was likely to be used for. Does anyone know about this sort of thing that can help me?
It's 44cm high, 98cm across, and 46cm deep.

Re: Old Pine Chest Iron Straps And Handles
Found a couple online with the same hinges listed as Georgian, but that was the only similarity. Search Georgian pine coffer.

Re: Old Pine Chest Iron Straps And Handles
Thanks for your help. I didn't know what to search under, but a few did pop up similar under pine coffer. The handles...I'd wondered why they were rings, thanks dd, makes perfect sense now. Whether Georgian or Victorian, it was basically a transport box altered for purpose with custom iron rings for tie down and iron braces to strengthen it. Fascinating.
I do love it and it's old wood and iron hinge creek every time the lid is opened, like elderly joints do. I have to move it, I haven't anywhere else to put it, but goddammit I'll find somewhere. I'm not parting with it....it hides loads of pots!
