Tarquin Cole piece? Empty Tarquin Cole piece?

Post by markb July 7th 2016, 10:35 pm

Hello all,
This is my first time posting to this site so I hope I have posted correctly!
I recently purchased this piece which has a written mark to the base TC 68, is it possible that this could be an early piece by Trevor Corser who I am led to believe was starting out at the Leach pottery around this time or is this just coincidence?
Many thanks, Mark

Unlikely to be Corser. According to the British Studio Pottery Marks book he was at St Ives Pottery from 1966 so a pot of his from '68 would have had his TC: and St Ives stamps.

Looked through the Marks book and the closest was Tarquin Cole, Rye Pottery, but can't find much of his work on Google for comparison to know for sure.

Thank you for taking a look at this.
I have had a quick look for Tarquin Cole and the only pieces i can find for that time are pieces that he has decorated (chargers etc) and rye tiles, but nothing similar to this one.
The little bit I have read on Trevor Corser says he started work for Leach in 1966 packing pots and mixing clay, but it isn't very clear about when he actually started as a potter?
As you can tell I know very little about these things, so thank you again for taking the time to look at this.

As you say Tarquin Cole only decorated Rye Pottery wares so it's definite not his ................. or Trevor's.

Not Trevor Corser or Tarquin Cole, anyone have any other idea as to who may have made this piece?
Thanks again, Mark.

The book says he was decorating tiles but who's to say he wasn't practicing making a few pots on the side? Seems like a Rye glaze. But it is also a glaze popular with students.
