John Webb, Lostwithiel Cornwall

Hi All

Unmarked bowl but nicely finished - approx 16.5 cm across by 6.5 cm high with a widened out flat rim about 1cm.

Early pieces of slipware by John Webb, Lostwithiel. Small teapot and creM jug.

Lostwithiel Pottery, I think. I’ve just posted a similar jug with marks on that thread.

9” jug, leaf and berry decoration, PL mark very similar to Philip Leach but not his style I don’t think.

I believe it’s by Lostwithial Pottery

Well done, there was one teapot with the same pattern when I googled Lostwithiel Pottery. As ever, thanks Naomi.

A pretty mug, even decorated in the bottom inside.
Nearest in the book is Philip Leach, but don't think this is.

I’m thinking Lucy Rickards,  the mark matches that on the BISPM website and she did make overglaze decorated terracotta, but there are very few examples of her work online to compare.  Very pretty mug though!

I bought a piece off him at Compton Verney and completely forgot to ask

It says here he previously produced domestic earthenware with
Judith Martelli, before changing production to salt glaze.

I just wasn’t sure if the mark was right. Others I’ve had were marked with LP mark. Label could also be right for Lostwithiel. This mark is faint but I might be seeing a S something. Any ideas?

I’ve checked on the Lostwithiel thread and my first instincts were right - this mark is the same as a jug on there with an L above the P but impressed sideways and I can see it on my one now.
