What age do you think this saltglaze westerwald stoneware jug is?
I know this is not 20thC but interested on your opinions on this, I am leaning torwards 17thC possibley late 16thC. It is gorgeous and I have had it around a while on my side and wondered what you guys thought. It is light in comparison to its size is 10" approx. Its glaze is lightler browner than I can get in the pics, but I would not call this a bellermine jug?
Thanks in advance

it doesn't look like any pottery I have seen from The Westerwald region and not a Bellarmine.
it looks like it was meant for use and was quickly made

It has had a pewter lid at some point in its life so that indicates not a throw away pot. The museum of London have several westerwald jugs and other ceramics very much like this when I was there. X

I think kt is called enghalskanne in german, possibly from 1700 to 1750, but i am not a specialist at all... might be older... might be younger...
I might ask the westerwald museum for you if you want me to... and allow me to use your pics.... but i think they should speak english too and will give a fast answer... http://www.keramikmuseum.de/e70/index_ger.html
Here is a link to an enghalskanne
