I love the 'Curry' such a simple 70's introduction to Curry, as in Vesta Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster) - Page 2 314189

In an interview with Clappison,I was interested to read that in 1966 he was given free time to make what he liked, this was the time when he produced his best piece simply called 'the girl'

In 1955 John Clappison introduced the distinctive Elegance range, decorated with a vertical stripe using a labour intensive method of applying masking tape strips before each item was aerographed with colour.

Joined the site this afternoon, if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Dad is still making muramics at home on a casual basis as he is getting on a bit now! Hopefully, he'll be
able to teach me the tricks of the trade and pass on some of his skills, time permitting!

Regards

Hello Ed,

Throughout the time John was at the Pottery, he was'nt allowed to sign pieces. All the work produced had to say "designs by the Hornsea Design Team". All my father's work since leaving the Pottery is signed by him and sometimes dated. These designs have been available through the Hornsea Pottery Collectors society who hold meetings throughout the year, you just need to become a member. John usually attends these and often gives talks.

Thank you

Jonathan

    Hello Dantheman,

John made the cat around 6 months ago, the other muramics are around a year old. It is really wonderful to find out what his next little creation is going to be, some are sensible and some just have that unique Clappison twist, it usually depends on what his recent experiences have been, and then he will theme it around them.

    Thank you

    Jonathan.

    Hello Skay,

My dad is the ripe old age of 73, so it's nice to see his creative juices have not dryed up completely yet? It keeps him out of mischief, and it gives my mum a bit of peace too.

    Thank you

    Jonathan.

He went over there this February, and he loved it. These are two of his favourate designers! He may have met stig when he was younger, but I will have to ask him for sure.

    Thanks Jonathan.

Hello Dantheman, John has not got one of these models. This was the only bust he did, and only a few dozen were made. These are now very rare, happy hunting!
