Little basalt black polar bear, designed by Marion Campbell for Hornsea and produced 1956/1957
A little over 3" tall. Unmarked.
I've seen some examples referred to as seals, but this one definitely has paws with pads, so it's a polar bear.

Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
I think that since soapstone polar bears can be white, grey, green, black that maybe the artist felt some 'license' in doing a black one.

I've not seen one of these posted so I thought you might like it, although it is an acquired taste sort of thing.....

Hornsea pin dishes (although looks like someone's been using them under their pot plants). From the Lancaster Vitramic, Muramic range

Nice, one of the rarer "World's best" mugs designed by john Clappison. Not had that one before.
Signed John Clappison pieces
John Clappison did sign some pieces while at Hornsea pottery.
These 2 items are from the "glazed stoneware" range 1963.
My "tall vase" (1961) is also signed, If I could only find it!

A bit of a cheat I know, but John did sign this fish plaque for me
a couple of years ago.

Re: Hornsea Pottery (E Yorks & Lancaster)
The mystery of the cruets is finally solved. After consulting members at today's
collector's meeting I have the info.
On this page
https://www.20thcenturyforum.com/t186p30-hornsea-pottery
The first cruet shown by WARETIGO in in fact called "ONION"
https://servimg.com/view/14717817/15
The second cruet shown by TIGERCHIPS is the real "CORDON"
https://servimg.com/view/13056274/32
The book is incorrect, all references to "Cordon" should be changed to "Onion".
As for the real "Cordon", neither the shape nor decoration, was included in the book .
