Richard Champion, Monkleigh and Yeo Valley Pottery Empty VV or YV mark - Yeo Valley Pottery / Yeo Vale Pottery - Richard Champion

Post by Potty Primate September 4th 2011, 10:09 am

Nice (tea?) bowl with clear mark which is close, but not close enough, to Charles Wollaston's seal.
Any clues anybody?

Richard Champion, Monkleigh and Yeo Valley Pottery Empty Small jug and vase with VV or YV mark - Yeo Valley Pottery (not Vellow)

Post by stardust* December 4th 2015, 10:04 am

Two pots only 11cms tall. both have VV or YV stamp. I recently came across a teapot with a similar stamp on ebay, described as early David Winkley Vellow Studio.

Do you think this is the same on my 2 pots and they are Vellow or possibly early David Winkley too?

I just got this email from David...

Sorry Graham but I didn't make either.  There are a few floating around on the web that say there are from here
but aren't.  Mine are stamped with Vellow (w!) and Somerset plus the workshop mark.

This begs the question: Who did make them?

So David says No. The clear marks on his thread are pretty conclusive.

I have have some of these bits in my hand before, wondering what they were,
often in that speckled oatmeal glaze.

We must be down to a YV or a VY, both uncommon letters for names.
Vera, Victor/Victoria, Vernon, Yolande ???

Or, maybe a place name would more likely eg
Yare valley, or Vale of York....

I don't think it's Connie Walther's mark. Could be Nina Davis or Neil Alcock

Edited to add: Probably an M or W mark. Maybe Richard Champion?

A small studio vase with a clear mark. It looks like a W or an M, depending which way up it is held.
Grateful for any help here, thank you.

Information gratefully received.  These have a mark which looks like a double V but also a bit like the way a young plant branches out!  The open pot / vase is 9cm high. Richard Champion, Monkleigh and Yeo Valley Pottery Img_2022

Edited to say it's Yeo Vale Pottery rather than Yeo Valley Pottery. Set up in Yeo Vale, Bideford, Devon by Richard Champion before he moved to Monkleigh in Devon in the 90s.
