England pot/ planter
Hello, Has anyone ever seen the like? Can someone tell me if this "GLOBE./ ENGLAND" pot/ planter is possibly mission or arts & crafts movement pottery? Any information or assistance with this query would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! David.

Re: England pot/ planter
It appears to have been made by one of the potteries around Stoke on Trent that used a low grade clay body that made inexpensive pastiches of popular design in the 1920s/30s. Globe would be the shape name rather than the pottery.

Its got that very thick dark glaze that Bretby used towards the end of there production. It almost looks like wall paint and dates it to the very late 20's early 30's. Globe is almost certainly the name for the range, I can't see that name listed as a Bretby range but they had a vast catalogue. A google search may bring you some similar, here is some details on Bretby anyway http://www.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/mp.cgi?item=63

We've had a few of these wares recently, just painted decoration on the clay body.
similar to the Staffs Brentleigh/Embossa type wares.
