Studio lidded jar - David Wadsworth, Alfreton, Derbyshire
Lidded jar approx 4" tall.
Marked to side with an intersecting W and inverted triangle, or possibly 'BVW', or then again, it looks like three mountains the other way up.

Re: David Wadsworth, Alfreton, Derbyshire
I say the above because, although there might have been a dash of salting in the kiln, it looks as if it is wood-fired.
Wondering if the mark is a stylised D W but haven't found a likely candidate.

Re: David Wadsworth, Alfreton, Derbyshire
That explains why I didn't get it, as I've never heard of him.
I see that he lives in Alfreton on DD's patch.

I'd never heard of him either , I'm told he may have been at Winchcombe for a little while , Doug Fitch had some of his pots and were spotted by a visitor to his studio .

Re: David Wadsworth, Alfreton, Derbyshire
The Pottery has a page of Facebook and it seems to be one of the many tourist attractions that Alfreton has to offer!
You can go there and have a taster session of throwing and decorating plus he also runs classes (not tonight though as he is sick). I saw some glazed pieces on the site that have the "window" decoration as on the vase above.

Ha Ha, was there yesterday doing the charity shops, got some good bits, but a bit of a
grim mining town really.
No I've never heard of him either, sorry.

David Wadsworth, Alfreton, Derbyshire.
Been in to his studio/tearoom/shop today whilst on a visit to family, lovely place, lovely people, lovely pots.
On a bit of scouting the internet, seems he was a student with Doug Fitch and mentioned in his blog 'The Devonshire Pottery' http://slipware.blogspot.co.uk/2008/11/snuff-stuff.html
Alfreton, ("the grim old mining town") may be full of Charity shops, which is great for affordable treasures.... if DD doesn't get there first!... but it's surviving a superstore invasion, and is quietly sheltering a good potter (just my opinion).
Treated myself to one of his pots

Ha Ha, I go every few weeks or so, I've driven past the tea rooms and wondered what the name meant!

No the base dimples are just part of the design. you can even see the fingerprint
under the glaze. It has a soapy feel like soda glaze, amd maybe coil-built with
the spiral ribs. There is just something about it.

Re: David Wadsworth, Alfreton, Derbyshire
I think it's wheel thrown.
