Jeremy Harper is a bit of a mystery. Came to York in 1961 from near Hull and shared a studio with Barbara Cass at 10 The Shambles. His work appears to have been influenced by Cass. My earthenware bottle vase by JH is very similar to that being produced by Cass at the time and later at Arden... Or could it be the other way round??? - Admin
Anybody rate Jerry Harper's work? He seems to be quite collectible right now - this first piece (featuring the "Lincoln Imp") sold within 75 minutes of me putting it up on ebay last November!

He's a good potter but has a limited range. I think the imp one probably appealed on several levels, not just to collectors of studio pottery

I'm not sure if the imp one was a special commission for Lincoln Cathedral or just a particular inspiration for him.
I've not seen a lot of his stuff but you're right, it can be a bit same-y. Good quality, though.

I suspect a lot of it is commissions, judging from the various applied decoration

Does anyone know if Jerry Harper ran a production pottery with other potters? There always seems a fair amount of it around on Ebay, and seems to be one of the more frequent potters who turn up in charity shops. All implies quite a substantial production.
Think you are being a bit harsh there Studio. His work is good journey man pottery. But having said that, probably never anything to set the collecting heart alight. His work always goes cheaply on Ebay. Virtually nothing more than £10 at the very best.

His work always catches my eye on the charity shop shelves, so I do believe it's well potted. But well potted and collectable don't always go hand in hand. There is a lot of it around and its mainly commemorative or tourist pieces.

If you want a cheap mug that'll probably last a lifetime then I'd recommend buying one of his.

Is that a Yorkshire Rose on the side? Unusual, as if it was a string feeder, than why have the pouring lip?

It is a Yorkshire Rose. I can't imagine how the pouring spout makes sense with a hole in the side!

UPDATE: This piece of pottery is a brilliant device for separating egg white from egg yolk. It worked like a dream!
