Japanese Mishima ware

, .  Can anyone help with this grey and white pottery plate.  The mark on the back is quite hard to see.  I wondered if this was oriental rather than studio pottery.

Japanese. I'll chase up the name for it.

It's a long process to do this type of work. First you decorate with the impressed pattern and then use a dark slip to cover the item, which you let dry. You then cover the whole item again with the lighter slip and when that it almost dry you scrap it off the higher surface, leaving the lighter slip in the impressions. Then you fire.
