I have inherited a lot of pots from my inlaws who recently died. They used to run the Godfrey May Gallery in Dartmouth in the late 60's and bought from all the big names of the day.
Unfortunately a lot of the pots were used every day and didn't survive! Makes me want to cry.

I've since come across this painted mark a few times. Maybe it's KW for Kate Weaver or Karen Wood?

I knew Karen Wood when she worked in the UK and they don't look like her work.

Could this little jam pot be by John Maltby? The signature looks similar.

No, not one of Maltby’s, although possibly from the same era @1970s
I’ve come across it several times but not managed to ID it yet. Closest in the Marks book is Margaret Newton but I've not seen any of her work for comparisin. Otherwise, maybe French?

No. John Maltby did sign his work sometimes it was always Maltby in capitals or lower case. He never used a shorthand signature like this. Plus it does not look much like his glazing.

Thanks Naomi. On one thread it said that pots came from gallery owners in Dartmouth so maybe it’s a Devon maker. It’s a nice bowl.
