Pastel tea set, marked Image 70 Staffs England. I assume the '70' means it was in production in the 1970s

The EP stands for Empire Porcelain so I guess the Image 70 is the pattern name.

It is one of the last marks used in the 1960s. The company closed in 1967.

Staffs 1920s/30s, like Beswick, but the mark looks to be embossed
rather than impressed.
I know I've seen these before...., Trentham/Wade Heath/Clews/Empire/Shorter/Crown Devon, etc etc

Empire Ware dated July 1935 but can anyone describe the type of glaze? It's rather beautiful although the darker areas in the image are actually lighter in the real thing!

Just art pottery "flown" glazes. Nice piece, never seen an Empire like that before.

Strange it's called Empire porcelain, as they only seem to have made earthenwares.

I thought the same about the company name but they did make some porcelain items from the late 1950s onwards.

Thanks both. Body looks like stoneware to me. It would be too early for porcelain but it's not earthenware.

Post by RVsaid September 16th 2020, 1:22 pm

Hi

Thought I would remember who made these but not, the circular style paint stamped markers mark is there but you can't read it.

I thought maybe Price or Wood however the glaze colour looks rather Pool Majolica like....

Thanks
