Delft (?) Ewer Empty Delft (?) Ewer

Hello!

I have a small porcelain ewer with hand painted blue scenes. I was wondering if anyone who knows Delft can weigh their opinion on it. I would like to know if this actually is Delft and possibly its age. Thank you!

I don't think its Delft. It doesn't look like tin glazed earthenware, and the marks are wrong. May be german or Austrian porcelain

Naomi,

As always, thanks for your advice. I know Delft is usually quite well marked but the ship scene kind of threw me off. Ill see what I can find for German and Austrian porcelain if any of it matches. Thanks!

Think we need to establish the body first, can you shine a strong light through it?
Are there moulding lines on the sides?

No light shines through and yes there are mould lines along the front and back.

It could be feldspathic stoneware. It would look like a thick porcelain and light wouldn't shine through it.

Naomi,

It definitely looks like feldspathic stoneware. The teapot examples I found in that material even have the white with blue line design on the ewer (although none of the painted designs). Is this type of stoneware usually fairly matte? The examples I can find are more matte and mine is very glossy.

Yours could have had the pattern painted in cobalt blue then a clear glaze coating over the top to give the glossy look.
