Glass Bird with Coloured Stripes - Murano or Finnish? Empty Glass Bird with Coloured Stripes - Murano or Finnish?

Post by mjron September 10th 2014, 2:01 am

I recently acquired this bird from an estate sale - colored stripes within clear glass with applied black beak and eyes.  Is this Murano or is it possible that it is Finnish Oiva Toikka?  I've seen a couple of similar birds online and they called them Murano, but didn't identify a maker, so i don't know if they were just guessing.  Anyone recognize this piece?

If it was Toikka it would be signed, and I haven't come across any looking like this one.
Can you post a photo of the base. Is it rough or smooth? If it's rough then I think it's Chinese. If it's smooth it might be murano but I'm not seeing the quality in the coloured stripes I'd expect from a murano piece.

Christine,

Really? Yikes, I hope not, but I guess that it's possible. It's actually a nice looking bird and the glass looks to be of good quality. I didn't realize that the Chinese were making this type of quality.
