Mystery Vase w/ Bubbly Purple Half-Post Casing
Bought this yesterday, and it's evading easy identification...
28cm tall, rather weighty, thick-walled clear glass body with a German half-post casing (where the initial gather of glass is only partially covered by subsequent layers) of a very seedy/bubbly layer of vibrant purple, and finished with a thick layer of clear again. Polished pontil mark to the base.

I don't like to say this but I saw a taller straighter version of this last week with an Ikea label on the bottom

I'd be extremely surprised, to be honest.
It's heavy, well made, and well finished. None of which, together, really stacks up against the average piece of Ikea glass from Poland/China.

Might it have been either of these vases you saw? They're the only visually similar pieces I can find from Ikea for the last 10-15 years.

(they're actually pretty nice, those - and they got a decent glass designer on-board for them)

Re: Mystery Vase w/ Bubbly Purple Half-Post Casing
Ikea are an odd bunch - they will, sometimes, go the extra mile and get a well-known designer to come up with a few pieces for them (Gunnel Sahlin works primarily at Kosta Boda, and even Verner Panton did a particularly ugly chair for them in the 1990s, iirc)... but they'll tend to favour cheapness over quality, so the end result almost always feels a little compromised.
